Painting Dice Towers
Printing larger prints in a less expensive filament is something that should
be considered if you are able to get the same quality. To lower the printing
cost, we are using PLA Overture filament in black that usually runs for $18-19
per 1 kg roll. Choosing this over a $26-35 roll can help negate the costs for
our customers. Most people would prefer an intricate dice tower over a flat
black one.
I started using color shift and sparkle spray paint on my prints when I
started printing the Cinderwign3D dragons in March,2022 and really liked the
results so I decided to use this on dice towers along with other painting techniques.
I combine the spray paint with rub n buff paint colors that seem to have a very
nice eye-catching effect against the black prints. These methods also take less
artistic ability then painting the towers with paints.
Following are photos of the Druid Focus and Barbarian Dice Towers from
Furhaven by Fate’s End.
The Druid Focus has color shift green and sparkle spray paint to the top and then rub and buff to the tree bark. To get this effect, patience is needed in taping off the lower area to get ready for the spray painting.
The Barbarian Dice Tower was printed in space grey filament then the stump was painted black. Rub and buff is the only paint needed for this project.
As always, thank you for stopping by and joining us on our 3D printing journey!
